Betty bought some butter but the butter was bitter so Betty bought some more butter to make the bitter butter better butter.
And while she was doing this-
Sally sells sea shells along the sea shore but today Sally sold sea shells away from the shore.
And we have a story…
Betty was a blonde girl who lived with her mother in a small cottage near the sea shore. Now, she was the perfect fairy-tale character, because why otherwise would she live in a cottage on the shore?
She had a friend called sally who lived up on a palm tree, or whatever kind of tall tree grows on a shore. And since she lived up a tree, she is like our savage figure.
Betty and Sally went to play in the morning, on the white sands they had grown together on. By the time the sun came overhead, they would be making their way to their daily jobs, separating for a while.
Betty would go collecting fresh bakery supplies, or whatever she could find shipped in to their island from the mainland that day, to run the only bakery the island had. Butter was her favourite to shop, because it was soft and she had to touch it to judge it.
Sally went shell-collecting. Ensuring that no sea creature hid inside, she would put the prettiest shells in her basket, that the sea might have thrown up that day and hop down from beach to beach.
In the evening, Sally would lift the tarp sheltering her little stall and present her shells for sale. The ladies loved it. Side by side, Betty would sell what she baked and everyone would praise her.
That’s how these two island girls spent their day throughout the year. And if only we all had the courage to make our lives this simple, we would too be as happy. 🙂
