Letter Gone Viral

Posted on

A letter written from a dad to his gay son Nate is going viral on the Internet because of its simple, hopeful message of love. The letter was first uploaded on the Facebook page of FCKH8.com, an organization aimed at empowering youth through its snarky, gay-positive T-shirts, videos and activist campaigns. (Source: Yahoo)

Nate... From Dad
Nate… From Dad

Nate’s family did not want to share any information besides the letter itself. But the four sentences alone have been enough to inspire a bit of an online frenzy.

I’m pretty proud that this letter went viral. The sidelines run with grief too, that so many people needed, craved this kind of acceptance… This is a rare incident of enormous love and support, shown by the parent, and it embodies the very idea of unconditional love. Again, the sidelines cry because this incident is so rare…

It really is a mess… should the gay community, and all its supporters, be jovial as to the attention and appreciation granted by this simple letter? Or should they see the irony, that so many people want this very acceptance and yet the laws refuse to accommodate LGBT people just like others?

Through this letter, I wonder what really is going viral… the simple words of this awesome dad, or the hope of thousands of people… either way, it was important for me to share this letter, and hope that someone else is smiling just as much as I am, on reading it.
